f you are looking for 'natural' black pearls you will undoubtedly end up with the (saltwater) Tahiti pearl. Tahiti pearls are grown in the 'Pinctada Margeritafera' a very large oyster also called the 'Black Lip Oyster'. The Tahiti pearls come in various colours; peacock green, bronze, silver-grey, purple-blue and brown-black. The colour of the inside of the oyster determines the colour of the pearl. Sometimes a pearl is green in colour but has an extra shiny colour from the inside, an undertone, this can be silver-grey or, for example, bluish.
